Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S., marking when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom in 1865, long after the Emancipation Proclamation. It's a federal holiday (since 2021) known as Freedom Day, celebrated with parades, picnics, cultural events, and red foods, honoring African American history, culture, and the struggle for liberty with observances like reading the Emancipation Proclamation and family gatherings.
