Championing Living Donation
CKF Ambassador Jack Marshall’s Donation Journey
The Chris Klug Foundation proudly welcomes Vanderbilt University senior Jack Marshall to the CKF Ambassador team, recognizing his remarkable journey at such a young age as a living kidney donor and his commitment to educating others.
Jack’s story began in early 2023 when his mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure. Without hesitation, Jack pursued diagnostic testing and, by November, was cleared to be her donor. Thanks to the expert transplant team at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA, Jack successfully donated his kidney in December 2023, giving his mother a second chance at life. Both made a smooth and speedy recovery, and Jack returned to his active lifestyle just weeks after surgery—even skiing in the French Alps only two months post-donation!
Through his experience, Jack realized the importance of informed decision-making in organ donation and was fortunate to have guidance from a close family friend who had donated a kidney years before. He has since found a passion for educating and inspiring others to consider becoming a living donor. As a CKF Ambassador Jack hopes to continue paying forward the insight and encouragement he was offered during his donation experience to enhance other potential living donors experience.
Jack is passionate about increasing awareness, particularly among young people, who may not realize how impactful living donation can be. By sharing his story in schools, hospitals, and community events, he aims to dispel myths and inspire more individuals to register as organ donors. The Chris Klug Foundation is honored to support Jack’s mission to expand education and advocacy for living kidney donation. His journey demonstrates that life after donation remains vibrant and fulfilling, and that one selfless act can transform another person’s future.
Join CKF in celebrating Jack’s dedication to giving back. His efforts will help ensure more individuals have access to life-saving transplants while fostering a community of informed and compassionate donors.
